“If a writer be conscious that to gain a reception for his favourite doctrine he must combat with certain elements of opposition, in the taste, or the pride, or the indolence of those whom he is addressing, this will only serve to make him the more importunate. .”—CHALMERS.

Here is one movie that would make CHALMERS, the founding editor of the reputed Economist very proud. Although this movie, which is based on the story of the deceased journalist Veronica Guerin (see the following link) does not qualify to be a cinematic triumph, it nevertheless pays tribute to some 196 journalists in the last few years who died while serving the profession!

Cate Blanchet( Elizabeth) stars as Veronica Guerin, who was revered both in Ireland and England for her uncompromised reporting.
Veronica started her career writing on insignificant topics before moving on to write about the more contentious issues that were debalitating the socio-political outlook of Ireland.

Although her tenacity cost her her life, her soul can take solace from the fact that it was this quality that was instrumental in bringing some far reaching Judicial reforms in the Irish republic! The whole Nation was enraged by this star journalist's murder and took to streets to drive the drug dealers out of Dublin. It also made the beaurcrats to acknowledge the problems and draft measures to tackle them!

A nice watch for once. The DVD has a bonus footage which shows Veronica's speech at the CJP awards ceremony!
