>>yeah....that is basically for system restore......i thought that it might work if u restore to some previous date......

Kasak:yeah... the system shld have been setup like that do it.. but we get inbuilt system recovery tool will be running.. it is good to use it and recover it from old date where everything is fine and running.

it is available in progams->accessories->sys tools-> system restore. try this option... if you are unable to open start menu ..go through explorer and find the shortcut in "Allusers" profile programs.

1.though my laptop is 60gb i formatted only up to 40 gb, now am not able to see that remainin part ..how is it possible for me to getback the remainin 20 gb..

Go to: ctrl panel -> Administrative tools -> Computer Management -> Diskmanagement tool

In disk management you would see: all the physical storage and secondary storage devices.

you would find disk0 with all primary or secondary partitions upto 40 gig. For the unused part, u will find a block with "Unallocate x GB"

select that block and right click on it and do a format and assign a drive letter.

hope this helps.

2.am not able to install the xp sp2 .. after 1 hr r so the s/m is still with no function .. i waited for couple of hrs but no use.. so i had to forcibly shut down and again had to restore to the previous point.. i hav no idea whts gone to my laptop..

i have been communicated not to use SP2. So i never thought of upgrading or updating SP2. so no info on this...

but I would suggest you to get SP2 exe into a CD and do it from disk than from downloading from internet.

btw, I recieved an SP2 disk from MS when initially they released it. not opened it yet

Hi..
when I login to WINXP,I am not able to see my desktop icons, start button, quicklauch, etc. but only my wallpaper on the screen, and all i could do was only using Task Manager to run the programs I needed...I restarted the computer several times but nothing changed ...
Then I went for the cmd and typed attrib -h shelliconcache ,its saying file not found. I also had a number of entries in the hosts file and RPC (lsass.exe) shutdown error used to appear.but after deleting the host file entries ,the error did not appear.
I even Installed the Windows XP update and also searched for virus through MCAFEE and stinger.Nothing was found.

I am only able to run the programs from the task manager and nothing else.

Please advice on this...its very urgent.
