Hyderabad, June 3: There was the actor. There were the producers. No director, but plenty of action and even bloodshed. Actor Nandamuri Balakrishna on Thursday shot two film producers with his licenced pistol at his Road No. 45, Banjara Hills residence, reportedly in self-defence, after the duo attacked him following an argument.
The two producers, Bellam-konda Suresh and Satyana-rayana Chowdary, are in a critical condition in Apollo Hos-pital, while Balakrishna who reportedly suffered injuries on his hands, stomach and chest, has been admitted to Care Hospital at Banjara Hills. Apparently, the two producers had gone to Balakrishna’s residence at around 9 pm on Thursday, to ask him why he was keeping them out of the invitee list for his birthday party on June 10.
Balakrishna’s personal manager Prasad, speaking to Deccan Chronicle over telephone, said Suresh started abusing Balakrishna as soon as he entered the actor’s residence. “Suresh said Balakrishna had asked him to give monetary compensation to fans who died on the first day of his film Lakshmi Narasimha, but did not invite him to his birthday party. ‘You want my help and money to give compensation to your fan club, so how dare you not invite me to your birthday party?,’ Suresh told Balakrishna,” said Prasad, an eyewitness to the entire incident.
He also said Suresh had a criminal background. “For a long time, Balakrishna was pressurised by his fan club to keep away from Suresh and Satyanarayana as the two were silently working to the detriment of his film career. So, Balakrishna started distancing himself from the two producers,” Prasad said. According to Prasad, Balakrishna had got his pistol serviced only on Thursday.
It was thus the first thing the actor thought of to defend himself from the sudden and unexpected attack by the two producers. “When Suresh started beating Balakrishna and attacking him with a flower vase, he picked up the pistol and ‘in self-defence’ fired at the two producers, who were regular visitors to his residence,” Prasad said.
Meanwhile, doctors at Apollo Hospitals said the two producers walked into the hospital with bullet injuries. Soon after the firing, Balakrishna’s aides had dumped the two in front of the Apollo Hospital main door. The Hospital RMO said they got admitted stating that unknown persons had fired at them. “Satyanarayana bore bullet injuries on the left side of the sternum and Suresh had bullet injuries near the armpit,” the RMO said. Later, a nephrotomy was conducted on Suresh and a kidney removed.
Satyan-arayana had an operation in which a portion of his liver was removed. Both of them are in a critical condition, casualty medical officer, Dr Namita Pandey said. Balakrishna, son of the legendary actor N T Rama Rao and brother-in-law of TD president N Chandrababu Naidu, was not available for comment. Interestingly, neither Balakrishna nor the two film producers have lodged a complaint with the police.
Police Commissioner R P Singh told Chronicle that police parties have visited both the hospitals. Soon after the incident, the police broke into Balakrishna’s house, which they found locked. They could not collect any bloodstains as they found the spot cleanly washed. The actor’s cook and a guard have been picked up from the house for questioning.“Neither of the parties have lodged a complaint so far. How can I tell you which party we will book on attempt to murder charges at this juncture? Investigations are still on,” Singh said.
The police are also probing whether Balakrishna is faking his injuries. Sources said it has been a meteoric rise for Suresh in the film industry. He shot to fame with two superhits — Aadi featuring NTR Jr and Lakshmi Narasimha featuring Balakrishna in the lead. Earlier, Suresh had been involved in a controversy over an advertisement which made a negative statement against Chiranjeevi.
