As Rahman explained it to TIME’s Lina Lofaro for a story we did last April when Bombay Dreams opened on Broadway, "If you have one big hit in India, it will sell more than 5 or 6 million. I’ve done over 70 movies in which more than 20, 25 were really big hits. And the rest of them are musical hits. The soundtracks sell very well. It’s a calculation of all that stuff. Each film I do is in three different languages. Tamil soundtracks sell probably half a million, Telegu sells probably 1 million, Hindi is like more than 6 or 7 million." He added: “In India, we don’t get royalties. Otherwise I’d be a very rich man. I wouldn’t have to come to America!

ARR contribution teesi pareyyalem mama.. He did contribute to tamil music. He bought lot of changes no doubt in that. IR made tamilians to listen tamil music. ( Earlier they were also listening to Burmans etc., ) ARR made non tamilians listen tamil music...
Kaani eedi ego, eedi statements doesnt make any sense at all. That too at his stature... |

there is one famous quote by a famous tamil person when he was asked to comment on IR and ARR then this is what he said about both in that order
One is Music with Sound
Other is Sound with Music
but ARR did made some difference to music composition of tamil cinema. ofcourse he has his own egos and problems. |

a good article by Times Columist about ARR. Good to see an Indian being praised by TIME and getting international recognization.
couple months back i listened ad about bombay dreams in wcbs AM 880 prominent NY radio station.
P.S.: bulli mama meeda kopam toni ARR dxxxxkandi. Though i am not a big fan of ARR I did liked his music in films like Roja, Kadalan, Prema Desam, Rangeela and LAGAAN.
