It is to India's great dishonor and the telling effect of western education that PV should be compared to Machiavelli and not to chanakya. But his hands off leadership style (that will make Machiavelli proud) and "paretovian improvements"-atleast some people benefitted with no one getting worse off than their existing standards- to the Indian economy made people to ignore his shortcomings.
If I ever guest lecture on leadership in the school that I graduated from in India (one of my dreams), I will ask my students to do case studies on people like P.V.N. ( captain Ahaab in Moby Dick is another favorite of mine) to understand the complex traits of leadership!!"
