camcorders lo SONY is the best.

Digital camera lalo Canon is in top, then Kodak, Olympus, sony comes. While buying DCs look for optical zoom, more optical is better.

Kodak cameras comes with 4x optical, where as others usually comes with 3x. Make sure you buy atleast 3.2 MP camera.

i think most of the canon models doesnt hav that...even my model doesnt hav and one more drawback with my s 50 is tht it doesnt hav battery indicator ... jus bfor the last few mins it shows the red sign and the battery dies off...

the top camcorder picks ... i plan to buy a sony one..

coming to the digital cameras....canon rule the roost....they have the one of the finest cam lens.....though u may say the sony uses carl zeiss in some of cams but canon outshines sony in all depts.....there is sony dsc p100 though it has carl zeiss lens its image qlty is quite poor compared to sony dsc p 72,whcih doesnt have the carl zeiss lens.....

 http://reviews.cnet.com/4521-6530_7-5021301-3.html ?tag=subnav

these are the best cams around in 5 mega pix cell range....i have bought the canon power shot s50 and the qlty of the pictures is amazing...though for an avg users like us all the cams have the same clarity for post card prints but still canon has edge over sony.....u can follow the discussion forms in dpreview.com

if ur lookin for compactness go for canon powershot models s60 r latest s70 ... r u can go for g5...and usually any digital cam above 300 bucks will produce very good qlty pictures for avg user......

The general practise... not to print date on the snaps since it spoils the actual mood of the pic.

I guess canon s400 do not have that. sony comes with defalut.

I used sony DSC S85 too for 8 months.. so all this came to know through that.

Canon s400 (dig camera) is just wonderful. Sony TRV22 is also good.

Btw, if we go to India, how can we charge the battery ? Do I need to buy another adapter or can I use 110-220v converter ? Pls advise.

new generation sony sucks except DSC-W1. Go for Canon S50 and or S400/410/510. I too use Canon S400 and its nice. For beginner it is good. The only drawback is not much use for a pro/ameture since no manual settings for taking pictures..

niku emi specifications kavalo cheppu mama,
 digicams are not like camcorders

If u r looking for small size, ease of use, go for Canon S400/s410 or s500.

If u r looking for a more professional look, go for Canon G5.

All the cameras I mentioned take excellent pictures.

I have a S400 (its almost the size of a old cinthol) and I love it. I carry it everywhere, its so handy.

G5 has all the features of S400, and a few extra, but its a bit bulky.

 look for features:

compact one with view finder and LCD display
 should have night shoot mode
able to work in low light shooting especially in India.
 battery life
 reliability since service is costly.
 IEEE 1394 and USB support.
 -->
my friends most of them bought sony trv-22 it uses mini-DV casette as storage device. nice one and excellent clarity.
the advantage is even naive users can operate easily without much hesitation. as of now it is working in great condition I guess 5 to 6 guys bought it.
