In one interview with IR where SPB interviewed Ilayaraja on Radio, that was a one hour telecast way back in 1990's. There he told how the song "Sundari neeyum Sundarudenu" from Michael madan kama raja, that song was sung by Kamal in tamil. Actually the song was recorded and finalised but Kamal started singing in a different way ( improvising the song ) which every body liked and Ilayaraja rerecorded that song on Kamal's voice.
Ilayaraja mentioned, Kamal, SPB are the ones who match his frequency. |

Mumbai express (2005)
MUSIC: Maestro Ilayaraja
If you see the details of the movie, you say wow!!! Based on past history, one will guess Kamal and Ilayaraja wow!!!, its going to be a listening treat. But dont expect too much. The audio of this movie doesnt offer anything similar to past combination of these two greats. Ilayaraja doesnt want to go with current trend. He has reached heights. More classy touch to his tunes which normal listeners may not like. But hearing few more times you may like them. Overall the audio might not go well in the audience as it has nothing much to offer. Its long time that Ilayaraja has given a big hit like Kadhalukku mariyadai in tamil.
1. Naa Kanulalo Evaro.. Singers: SPB and Chitra Rating: 4.5
SPB and chitra makes this song the best in the movie. This songs is truly classic. Ilayaraja known for his best orchestrisation is best in this song. Jazz touch is felt through out the song. I think karthik was the singer in interludes. Complete off trend song. Ilayaraja's skill is completely seen in this song. Though sometimes the scales are up and down you dont feel much.
2. Lera Addu thappuko... Singers: SPB, SPSailaja and Gopika Rating: 3.0
Title song. Nice beats and nice flow in the song ( without the dialogs of shailaja ). Why it is very long one need to watch the movie. Filled with western tunes in between. Gopika couldnt match SPB. SPB sings with ease. Sure this song is catchy. SP Shailaja dialogs in between the song will not explain anything unless movie is watched.
3. Idemi Vintha gola... Singers: SPB, ParthaSaradhi, Kamal Rating: 2.5
Kamal gets to sings one song in his movies. Whether it is chorus or as the lead singer. In this he is limited to chorus. Time pass song nothing great in tune or lyrics. May be listening to couple of times may grow on you. Starts good, but some how lost somewhere. Somewhere heard like tune.
4. Vandemataram Singers: N/A Rating: 1.5
This is a situational song. Vandemataram original song starts normally but there after everything went hay way. Started normal but suddenly goes no where. Like olden days tape suddenly winds fast/slow. Goes into normal speed. Takes different turns and finally ends. May be after watching movie this can be heard. Till then can skip this song without any problem.
5. Theme music 1&2 Singers: N/A Rating: 4.0
Any day Ilayaraja is best in theme music or BGM. Here is another theme music will stick to BGM lovers. Though one need to watch the movie, you can just keep listening if you listen to instrumental music a lot.
